FCPX TB HDD Use

LaCie access via Finder

Folder _Extras is clearly writable. I had created folder _Extras/AVCHD where I copied .MTS files off the camcorder.

Show Accesss Permission

Start FCPX

Only internal SSD shown

Can't create an Event anywhere else except under the internal drive called INTEL_SSD

Command I - Import (aka create Archive)

Zoom

Camera is shown as NO NAME, with clips clearly available. DEVICES shows all, including LaCie and NAS shares of mac, media and office. I now select a small clip and click Create Archive.

Set file name

I have set file name as Clip 2. Now click Destination drop-down.

Destination

ONLY one location is available: that is the internal SSD. No option to select any other drive!

Now repeat in iMovie

Note:

1) Event Library now shows other drives
2) NAS shares have Exclamation Point on them (why?)

Select 1 Clip to import

Choice of Save To targets

iMove allows choice of Save As targets. Interestingly of the NAS shares, NAS share "Backup" is the only available one. However FCPX didn't allow any of these.

Final puzzle - the share name BACKUP is actually NOT mounted

I am very puzzled by all this. Any explanation would be most welcome.
